School Age (Ages 6-12)
Overview & Description
The school age curriculum has 5 stations. Classes are 30 minutes in length and have a maximum of 4 students. Below are the general goals of each station.
Love to Swim School also offers Pre-Competitive Group classes for school age students. Below is a description of this program.
Stations
Station 1 - Bubbles
- Independent submersion of the face
- Blowing bubbles
- Basic kicking skills
- 10 relaxed bobs
Station 2 - Floats, Glides and Breath Control
- Front/back float and recover
- Front/back glide and recover
- Propulsive, efficient front & back kicking
- Jumping & sitting bobs
- Retrieve objects from the bottom of pool-4ft
Station 3 - Kicking and Endurance
- Backward bobs
- Vertical and horizontal rollovers front to back with 10 kicks, back to front with 10 kicks
- Propulsive, efficient kicking 30ft
- Elementary Backstroke
Station 4 - Switches
- Understand how to move water effectively and powerfully
- Apply understanding to their beginning freestyle
- Swimmer will have a basic crawl arm stroke for a 20 foot distance upon mastery of this station
Station 5 – Freestyle (6 student max)
- Reclining bobs
- Introduction to backstroke
- Freestyle with side breathing-1 length
- Endurance kicking
Pre-Competitive Groups
These are 1 hour classes for students age 6 and up. Classes have a maximum of 8 students per instructor and are divided by ability. Groups focus on all four competitive strokes, endurance, strength, and technique refinement. Please come in for a free assessment.
